Overview
NitroPack can optimize different types of content on your WordPress website, including blog posts, pages, and custom content created by plugins. The Page Optimization feature lets you choose exactly which types of content get optimized, giving you complete control over your site's performance.
By default, NitroPack optimizes all public content types to ensure maximum performance. However, there may be times when you want to exclude certain content types from optimization - for example, if you have dynamic content that needs to update in real-time, or private member areas that shouldn't be cached.
How to Access Page Optimization Settings
Important: You need to be logged into your WordPress admin area and have NitroPack connected to access these settings.
Log in to your WordPress admin area
Go to the NitroPack menu in your WordPress sidebar
On the NitroPack dashboard, look for the Page optimization widget
Click the Settings icon (gear icon) next to "Select what post/page types get optimized"
Understanding the Page Optimization Interface
When you open the Page optimization settings, you'll see a modal window with a list of all your content types. Each content type has:
Content Type Name: The name of the post type (like "Posts", "Pages", "Products", etc.)
Toggle Switch: A switch you can turn on/off to enable or disable optimization
Sub-items: Some content types may have related taxonomies (categories, tags) listed underneath
What Gets Listed
You'll typically see these content types:
Home: Your website's homepage
Archive: Archive pages (category pages, author pages, etc.)
Posts: Your blog posts
Pages: Your static pages
Custom Post Types: Content created by plugins (like Products from WooCommerce, Events from event plugins, etc.)
How to Enable or Disable Optimization for Content Types
To Turn Off Optimization:
Find the content type you want to exclude from optimization
Click the toggle switch next to it to turn it OFF (the switch will appear gray/inactive)
If the content type has sub-items (taxonomies), decide whether to turn those off as well
Click Save Changes
To Turn On Optimization:
Find the content type you want to include in optimization
Click the toggle switch next to it to turn it ON (the switch will appear blue/active)
If the content type has sub-items (taxonomies), decide whether to turn those on as well
Click Save Changes
Important: When you disable optimization for a content type, NitroPack will automatically clear any existing cached versions of that content to ensure the changes take effect immediately.
Handling New Content Types
Sometimes, when you install new plugins, they create new content types (like a portfolio plugin creating a "Portfolio" post type). When this happens:
NitroPack will detect the new content types automatically
You'll see a notification asking if you want to optimize the new content
Choose your preference:
Click "Optimize selected" to cache the new content types
Click "Cancel" to leave them unoptimized
Future behavior: After you dismiss this notification once, any new content types added in the future will be automatically optimized (including ones from other plugins)
Note: This notification only appears once.
Common Use Cases
When to Turn OFF Optimization:
User dashboards or member areas: Content that's personalized for each user
Contact forms or submission pages: May not work properly when cached
Frequently changing content: Real-time data that updates every few minutes
When to Keep Optimization ON:
Blog posts: Static content that doesn't change often
Product pages: Generally benefit from caching
About pages and company information: Static content
Portfolio items: Usually don't change frequently
Event listings: Unless they need real-time availability updates
Troubleshooting Common Issues
"My contact form stopped working after enabling optimization"
Solution: Try disabling optimization for the page containing your contact form, or for the specific post type if it's a custom contact form post type.
"I don't see some of my content types in the list"
Solution: Only public content types appear in the list. Private or internal post types used by plugins for settings or data storage won't be shown.
"Changes aren't taking effect"
Solution: After changing optimization settings, clear your cache manually and wait a few minutes for the changes to propagate.
