To measure the performance of your website, we recommend using the following tools:
💡Note: We recommend using Google PageSpeed Insights to measure the performance of a page for mobile and desktop devices. And although it may not provide more granular information, it is well-equipped to help you with debugging purposes.
📍Some recommendations to keep in mind while you are testing:
- Have a look at this article to check if Nitropack is indeed serving cache before testing.
- Several factors can affect your tests (like timings of important rendering events, execution times, download times, etc.)
With every test, these factors vary slightly, which is why you see a slightly different score. It is normal to see differences up to 5 points, which is not a cause for concern.
- Test from different locations. If you want to choose your own location, you can create a free account on GT Metrix and test from different locations.
You can compare the results without NitroPack by adding ?nonitro at the end of the URL. Such as YourDomain.com/?nonitro.
For example, we can compare the scores for https://nitropack.io/
There’s a clear improvement in the website’s performance score.
Why do we recommend using these tools?
Google PageSpeed Insights
PageSpeed Insights is the official tool by Google to provide reports on the user experience of your website on both mobile and desktop devices and provides suggestions on how that page may be improved. The newly-updated Core Web Vitals assessment offers a great overview of your site’s performance.
GTMetrix provides a deeply granular analysis of a website's performance, including page load time and page size. It also provides a "Waterfall" tab that shows the load time of each request on a website, which can help you identify which requests are causing a slower load time.
WebPageTest is an open-source tool that offers more flexibility and several customization options compared to the other major testing platforms.
It provides more detailed and accurate information about website performance, particularly regarding load time and resource usage.
It also allows testing from various locations worldwide for a more comprehensive analysis and identification of issues specific to certain regions or browsers.
