How to Reclaim a Website
Updated over a week ago

In some cases, websites associated with a certain NitroPack account can be claimed by your account.

You can only reclaim sites that are using a free or standard paid plan. If the site you want to move is the last remaining website on a multi-site plan (or if it exists under a quota under a multi-site plan), you have to contact our support team at [email protected].

For all other cases, here’s how you can reclaim a site:

First, you’ll need a NitroPack account. If you don’t have one, go to https://nitropack.io/, click on the “Get Started” button, and select any of our plans (including Free).

After finishing the registration process, you will be automatically redirected to your dashboard.

Once you log into your NitroPack Dashboard, click on “Add new website”.

Next, enter the site’s URL and complete your order.

After purchasing a NitroPack subscription, you will be automatically redirected to your dashboard, where the following pop-up will appear:

Upon clicking "Continue", you will be redirected to the Reclamation page where you need to verify your ownership of the website. You can verify it via:

  • Email

  • or TXT file

How to reclaim your website via email

To start the reclamation process, enter the email of the person who currently owns the site, and click “Send code”:

They will receive an email informing them that a request has been made to reclaim their website. Now, they need to send you the code for you to successfully reclaim the website. If they don’t do it, you can contact our Support team using the chat bubble on the bottom right of this page.

Once they send you the code, all you need to do is enter it and click “Confirm code”:

A success message will appear, which means the website is now added to your account:

How to reclaim your website via TXT file

If, for some reason, you can't connect with the current owner of the website and you can't get the code, you can easily verify ownership by downloading and uploading a .txt file to your site's webroot directory.

Here's how to do it:

First, download the .txt file:

Then, upload the file to the <webroot>/.well-known/ directory. If it doesn't exist, you need to create it.

Next, click "Verify".

If you've done it successfully, you will see a success message, and the website will be added to your account.

WordPress Tip: If you're a WordPress user and the well-known folder doesn't exist, install a File Manager plugin. Then, you can easily create it inside the webroot directory and paste the .txt file there.
