How to Set Up NitroPack
Updated over a month ago

After you’ve created your account and connected your website, it’s time to configure a few key settings to ensure NitroPack works optimally for your site.

Experiment with NitroPack's Settings with Test Mode

Before applying any of the settings mentioned in this article, a great starting point is to test them in a secure environment.

Test Mode allows you to apply and test NitroPack’s optimizations without affecting your live visitors.

Here’s how it works:

When you turn the Test Mode on, it disables NitroPack for your website. While this mode is active, you can access the test (optimized) version of any page by adding ?testnitro=1 to its URL.

This feature is useful for:

  • Testing different optimization settings safely.

  • Checking how optimizations impact your site’s design and functionality.

  • Troubleshooting issues before applying changes to live traffic.

Choose Your Optimization Mode

NitroPack offers five different optimization modes tailored to different needs:

  1. Standard – Applies basic optimizations to improve site speed without aggressive techniques, ensuring maximum stability

  2. Medium – Balances performance improvements with stability by implementing moderate optimizations.

  3. Strong – Utilizes advanced features like image lazy loading, font adjustments, and optimized resource loading to deliver faster speeds

  4. Ludicrous – The most aggressive optimization mode, aiming for the highest possible page speed scores.

  5. Custom – Allows you to configure settings manually.

NitroPack’s default optimization mode is Ludicrous. However, you can experiment with the different modes freely.

Important Note: After switching between modes, save your settings and purge your cache from the Dashboard so NitroPack re-optimizes your site's pages. The changes will take effect after the new optimizations are done.

Enable Cache Warmup

Cache Warmup ensures your pages are preloaded and optimized before visitors land on them. This helps maintain fast load times and smooth performance. You can enable it straight from the Dashboard or the Cache Inisghts menu.

Depending on your subscription, you have to warmup options to choose from:

  • Standard – Scans your website and warms up pages based on recent traffic patterns

  • Sitemap XML – Uses your sitemap to prioritize and preload your pages.

Enabling Cache Warmup right away is recommended to ensure NitroPack keeps your pages cached efficiently. Learn more in this article.

Set Cache Expiration Time

By default, NitroPack retains cached pages for a day. However, if you have content that needs to be refreshed more often, you can adjust how long pages remain cached by using the Cache expiration time setting.
